Sous le métro aérien, boulevard de la Chapelle - Henri Cartier-Bresson
Paris Photo Daily #24
Henri Cartier-Bresson | Sous le métro aérien, boulevard de la Chapelle | 1951
This photograph exemplifies Cartier-Bresson's masterful ability to capture what he called "the decisive moment" - that split second when all elements in a scene come together in perfect visual harmony.
Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century and a pioneer of street photography. Known for his humanist approach and impeccable sense of timing, he co-founded the prestigious Magnum Photos agency in 1947.
While he traveled extensively throughout his career, Paris remained his home and a constant source of inspiration. This image is particularly significant as it shows his keen eye for urban geometry and human presence within the modern city landscape, themes that would define much of his work.
This photograph is now part of the collection of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris, which was established in 2003 to preserve and share his remarkable legacy.
