Paris Photo Daily #141

Daniel Frasnay | 1958
Daniel Frasnay (1928-2019) documented Paris from the early 1950s, becoming the official photographer for many of the city's famous cabarets, including the Moulin Rouge. After training with portrait photographer Roger Carlet and working at Studio Harcourt, he developed a distinctive style that captured both the glamour and everyday reality of Parisian life.
The late 1950s represented a period of transition for Paris and Place Blanche. The area around the Moulin Rouge, which first opened in 1889, maintained its status as an entertainment district while also functioning as a crossroads where different social worlds intersected—a duality perfectly captured in this nighttime scene.
